Thank you, Leslie!

This photo was taken a few days ago by Leslie Sakal. It is an honor and a pleasure to have her working with me on the documentation of this project.

I have been sooo behind in reading your blog! But, I caught up this morning. The more you try to explain this project to your few vocal detractors and the experience you are having to those of us who think you are just plain old amazing/brave/creative, the more it reminds me of certain things that I went through as a proud and active member of a certain national organization that asks young men to wear matching uniforms of tan and green. No, I'm not drawing direct parallels, but in one particular instance we had to build a fire and spend the entire night from sundown to sun up feeding it etc.. In addition to keeping warm and not burning down the forest, we were to spend that night in meditation about who we were, our strengths, our weaknesses and how we connected (or didn't connect) with society. That night had a very profound effect on me....but it was just one night by myself. You have 30 public days to not only consider the questions that I had (and about 40 billion other questions!), you are also surrounded by people who either support you, don't understand what you are doing, or are opposed to what you are doing. Again, I'm not making an "apples to apples" comparison, but I'll be shocked if after the end of your 30 days in the dress you aren't finding ways in which this experience has made you a stronger, better Irina for years to come.

One other quick observation from a married person. When either my wife (and I use "my" as a grammatical shortcut, not as an indicator of ownership....see, I have been reading!) or I run into personal challenges, we have each other to turn to for support. I'm not knocking self reliance here, but what I've seen from so many of the posts on your blog is that a similar kind of love and support is coming to you from your friends, family, teachers and complete strangers you have inspired. The painting you are creating only starts at the dress and you may never know how far the edges have stretched.

I'm proud of you, boss lady!

Chris
